At the Nema Collective, Nema Women's Collective leads, inspire and support. Firstly, Nema Women's Collective leads a collective with a membership of 500 women, with an administrative team and volunteers of 50 people to achieve their quest to advance ecofeminist practices through their islamic faith. The organization uses faith ensure ecological sustainability, and protect their lands from privatization and degradation. Secondly, the organization is primarily a women's faith group linked with a local most and islamic school, where most of their children study and board, The organization helps inspire women to see the long-term vision of keeping their lands, contributing towards its restoration and protecting it from privatization, The organization dos this through their monthly member meetings and quarterly community tours to consult and engage their members and the wider communities the organization serve the organization their farm produces and the proceeds of activities. Lastly, through Nema Women's Collective's leadership, the organization is supporting a new generation of women, girls and young men to see the land and faith as tools for transformational development for their communities, The organization dos this through their quarterly harvests, farmer's markets and the contributions the organization make towards their community food bank, the mosque and the education of their children. Through these efforts, The organization helps lead a strong team, inspire a new generation of women ecofeminist and faith leaders, and support the sustainability and integrity of their community. Climate change is making land demand high. The Gambia is one of the most densely populated countries in Africa, acces to land and resources is increasingly in demand, with both government and private enterprises seeking community lands for development or real estate. The lands managed by the Nema Collective under Nema Women's Collective's leadership have not been an exception, the organization is constantly dealing with government efforts to gain acces to the lands and the organization is constantly facing lobbies to sell the lands to private developers. The organization is constantly balancing economic hardship, patriarchal and modernization with their commitment to their faith, community and families through their women supported mosque and religious school for their children.

Desertification has led to a significant forest los in The Upper River Region, and needed urgent action to protect productive system. Currently the organization has already started their annual activities in the Upper River Region of The Gambia, which is done during the rainy season, planting trees to reforest degraded lands in four communities and make them available for agroforestry. This year the organization come with a unique expansion initiative to combat land degradation through meaningful approach to encourage farmers, community V.D.Cs participation, policy makers, and vulnerable women and youth groups. The adoption of sustainable farming practices, such as agroforestry to improve livelihood and protect biodiversity. Dependence on wood fuel.

Plantation Nurseries, a green climate enterprise based in The Gambia, is currently leading several land restoration initiatives in collaboration with local communities, schools, government agencies, and international partners. Their flagship program, the Green Schools Tree Planting Initiative, targets over 1,700 schools acros all regions of The Gambia, aiming to plant 100,000 fruit trees including mango, orange, avocado, guava, and sour sap. This initiative promotes environmental education and stewardship among children and youth. Additionally, through partnerships with the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources, The Gambia Red Cros Society, and other stakeholders, the organization is implementing restoration activities in over 20 communities in the North Bank Region, Central River Region, and Upper River Region. These projects focus on reforesting degraded lands with a mix of native and agroforestry species to restore biodiversity, enhance soil fertility, and strengthen climate resilience. In collaboration with the Banjul City Council, the organization is also engaged in urban coastal restoration through the planting of coconut trees along Banjul Beach, as part of the City Link Ostend-Banjul EU Project. Furthermore, weve partnered with Tree Tag to digitally track and monitor each tree planted, enhancing transparency and long-term impact tracking. The organization plan to scale their activities through the Gambia Green Initiative, a 10-year national project aiming to plant over 50 million trees. Plantation Nurseries is committed to restoring ecosystems, combating desertification, and building climate-resilient communities throughout The Gambia and beyond. Climate variability, such as unpredictable rainfall and extreme weather events, further complicates restoration efforts. Lastly, community awarenes and participation can vary, requiring continuous education and sensitization to ensure local ownership and stewardship of restored lands.

The organization will practice the following for land restoration which are; Planting more trees in areas where forest have been lost or degraded, protecting topsoil from.eroaion amd degradation. The organization will use techniques like terracing, contour plowing and using cover crops. With sustainable land management ww will implement practices that promote long term land health and productivity which includes crop rotation, and integrated pest management. With the ecosystem restoration by assisting in the recovery of ecosystems that have been degraded or destroyed the organization will involve restoring vetlanda, coastal areas and other natural habitats. The organization will rebuild floodplain areas to reduce flood risk and improve water quality which often involves restoring natural water glow patterns and vegetation. The following factors such availability of native species and extent of environmental degradation should be considered. When restoring wetlands it faces ecological complexity, climate impacts amd socioeconomic integration hurdles especially in the face of climate change amd variability, selecting the right land uses for given biophysical and socioeconomic conditions.
