In the coastal part of Guyana (Georgetown), there are current plans by the Catholic Church to engage youths in climate smart agriculture techniques and environmental stewardship. The organization will be part of these efforts. However, where The organization lives and work in the interior of Guyana, mining close to and on indigenous lands is a current concern of the Church. Mining damages the land and affects the water supply of nearby communities. The Catholic Church in Guyana (more specifically the Society of Jesus works with indigenous people and land in the Guyanese Amazon) is interested in learning how the organization can restore these lands as they were before after mining is done on them. This would help communities to know that all is not lost after mining ends and parts of their land have been destroyed. The organization is currently working with young indigenous people to learn more about traditional environmental practices and care for the environment in general. Land restoration techniques would help us to restore mined out lands. The organization would be able to financially support land restoration efforts along with local village councils but need to have the technical know how in an indigenous and Amazonian context.
