Also constrain the scale and effectivenes of restoration projects. *Deforestation and unsustainable farming practices. *Climate change. Further complicates restoration through unpredictable weather patterns and increased vulnerability of ecosystems. Additionally, *engaging local communities. Finally, *coordination with government and other stakeholders. Is often fragmented, slowing down implementation and reducing the impact of interventions.

Their faith organization currently oversees 9 hectares of land in Goma, North Kivu Province, Democratic Republic of Congo. This land is primarily used for religious gatherings, agriculture, and community outreach. This will involve establishing demonstration plots for climate-resilient crops, community tree nurseries, and engaging congregants in ecosystem care rooted in biblical principles. Their vision is to transform the site into a green sanctuary for learning, worship, and regeneration. This initiative aligns with their broader commitment to environmental justice, especially in a region affected by conflict, displacement, and deforestation. Catholic University of Bukavu
ChristianityAt the Catholic University of Bukavu (UCB), the organization believe that faith is not only expressed in prayer but also through their responsibility to care for their common home. As part of UCBs Environmental Service and co-founder of Artemis Africa, Catholic University of Bukavu leads efforts that combine ecological restoration with spiritual values and community solidarity. Currently, the organization is running reforestation campaigns both on campus and in nearby degraded areas, such as Cirunga and Mudaka. These are carried out in collaboration with local parishes, catechists, and student groups. The organization plant indigenous species on eroded hillsides and integrate agroecological practices into student-led initiatives and academic modules. The organization is also developing a pilot ecological garden on campus to train future leaders in sustainable agriculture, inspired by Catholic social teaching and Laudato Si. The organization sees Catholic universities as vital actors in shaping the next generation of ecologically conscious faith leaders. Through education, action, and partnership with faith communities, the organization is restoring not only landscapes but also a culture of stewardship deeply rooted in their spiritual identity. Many youth and faith groups are motivated but lack expertise in ecological management. Human pressuressuch as deforestation, charcoal production, and slash-and-burn farmingundermine their work. Finally, climate change adds further stres, with increasing landslides, prolonged droughts, and reduced soil fertility.

Women Concern
ChristianityThe organization is actually implementing the Ruzizi Plan Greening Project, that has three main objectives:. Creating community-based nurseries to make threes available for communities to plant in their own concessions. Grouping communities in cooperatives and empower them into market-oriented agroforestry focusing on horticulture. Mobilizing communities to agroforestry practice. Accompanying technically community cooperative in market-oriented horticulture and market development. Land governance: In Women Concern's country land is governed by an old law that is totally exclusive. Women, indigenous people, migrants and Internally displaced people are not considered and this hinders their restoration efforts. 2.Customary laws: In Women Concern's country, land especially in rural areas are a private property of the local leaders, the chiefs who have the exclusive power of decision on it. This makes many people excluded in the land governance and ownership where the chief is free to choose to whom attribute the land and to whom not. Armed conflicts: The organization has been living devastating armed conflicts since three decades now. The proliferation of armed groups and armed conflicts have been a major cause of soil degradation because of massive internal displacement observed during these 30 years of conflicts and tree cutting that have accelerated deforestation.
